Leonie Poole BEd, MEd
Léonie’s longstanding passion has always been painting the beauty of nature whether it be florals or landscapes. Living on a lake in Northern Alberta, Canada where the prairies meet the boreal forests, she has an abundance of beautiful landscapes for inspiration. The many gardens she maintains around her home also provides her with many images and inspiration for the floral paintings she so greatly enjoys painting. But she is not limited to painting florals and landscapes. She paints a variety of other subjects which are mostly commissions or images from her travels.
She has also been inspired by many great artists throughout the years. Besides her university education to become an art teacher, she has taken many classes and workshops with artists whose art she admires. She continues trying to improve herself by reading and watching videos. Leonie is always searching out new ways of interpreting her ideas, striving to paint more loosely and expressively.
Through her art, Leonie tries to convey the feeling of wonder and awe that she experiences in the presence of the fleeting and fragile beauty of nature. She hopes that through her paintings, she will inspire everyone to be good stewards of our environment if we wish to continue enjoying its beauty and bountifulness.
Leonie's work is admired by many. She exhibits her art in a number of places throughout the area and has participated in many juried, non-juried and solo shows winning a few awards along the way. Leonie is a member of the Aurora Visual Arts Association, The Society of Western Canadian Artists and Le Centre d' Art.
As a retired school teacher, she continued to hold art classes for children, youths and adults in her studio. However, now with Covid 19, she is unable to continue teaching in her studio. But this is not deterring her from teaching. She is planning on offering online courses.
